According to media reports, Cote d'Ivoire player Nicolas Pépé has suffered a setback due to inappropriate remarks in an online video.
Pépé not only faced severe racist abuse but was also excluded from the squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco by head coach.
In the video, Pépé mocked host nation Morocco’s historical results and made derogatory comments about the timing of dual-nationality players choosing to represent African national teams – a move that angered the Cote d'Ivoire squad, which includes many dual-nationality players.
Although the Cote d'Ivoire Football Association (FIF) condemned the racist attacks on Pépé and accepted his apology, and legend Didier Drogba also voiced his support, coach admitted that Pépé’s omission was not for sporting reasons but due to comprehensive consideration of off-field factors.
